Official Website of Carrier IQ

I have requested an official response from each of the three carriers I do business with in regards to their use of Carrier IQ. Here is what I have received so far.

Sprint:
Sprint maintains a serious commitment to respecting and protecting the privacy and security of each customer’s personally identifiable information and other customer data. We are researching recent reports on this issue. Carrier IQ provides information that allows Sprint, and other carriers that use it, to analyze our network performance and identify where we should be improving service. We also use the data to understand device performance so we can determine when issues are occurring and how to resolve them. We collect enough information to understand the customer experience with devices on our network and how to address any connection problems, but we do not and cannot look at the contents of messages, photos, videos, etc., using this tool. The information collected is not sold and we don’t provide a direct feed of this data to anyone outside of Sprint.

A key element of our privacy practices involves communicating with our customers about our information privacy practices. The Sprint privacy policy explains that certain data is collected automatically by Sprint including how a device is functioning and how it is being used. Carrier IQ is an integral part of the Sprint service. Sprint uses Carrier IQ to help maintain our network performance.

Sprint customized BlackBerrys, HP/Palm phones and the iPhone using IOS5 are among current devices which do not currently utilize the Carrier IQ diagnostic tool.
Although Sprint BlackBerrys do not have Carrier IQ installed, BlackBerrys do have technology that measures network and device performance. [I am requesting more information from Sprint regarding this]

Verizon Wireless:
Verizon Wireless does not add Carrier IQ to our phones, and the reports we have seen about Verizon using Carrier IQ are false. Safeguarding customer privacy is a high priority for Verizon Wireless, and we work with our vendors to ensure they have privacy protections in place.
We did recently notify customers about new privacy programs; we were transparent about how customer information will be used and gave clear choices to customers about whether they want to participate in these programs. (www.verizonwireless.com/privacy). Carrier IQ is not involved in these programs.

AT&T Wireless:
No response from this carrier as of 12/5/2011. [I will update when/if information is provided]
